In the middle of the countryside, in one of the largest connected tree nursery areas in Europe, the owners and employees always have nature in mind. Protecting resources and the environment is an important concern in all work and production steps. Under the guidelines of quality management according to ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and environmental management according to ISO 14001, cooperative collaboration with customers and suppliers is a prerequisite for ensuring long-term success.

Comprehensive ecological, social and economic sustainability determine every process of business activity.

Sustainable business means taking responsibility for the future.

Max Steier produces thousands of different products in Germany at the Elmshorn and Kölln-Reisiek sites and supplies over 3000 companies at home and abroad, including all the big names in German and international industry.

Producing the best and optimal products for customers is always linked to environmental considerations and takes into account the environmental goals we have set ourselves.

Economic sustainability, i.e. securing the company; securing production in Germany, in the region; securing the company in the family; securing jobs through training and further education; securing through constant investment so that Max Steier is equipped with machines that can continue to produce for the new technologies of customers and the market tomorrow.

Social sustainability means responsibility in the region and for the employees who live here and who have an average length of service of 15 years and therefore have in-depth knowledge of the processing of all materials and also of the know-how of production in order to meet even the most demanding customer requirements.

Ecological sustainability means not only the continuous reduction of environmental impacts such as the use of modern, energy-efficient machines, the reduction of waste and the promotion of recycling as part of the environmental management system according to ISO 14001, but also the use of local resources and cooperation with sustainable companies. In 2022, Max Steier went one step further in terms of ecological sustainability and has only been using green electricity since January 1, 2022.

Cultural sustainability means that the future needs origins and so not only charitable and cultural institutions are supported, but also the voluntary work of employees and owners is encouraged.

Code of Conduct

In addition to the above aspects of sustainability, Steier has also joined the compliance initiative of the BME (Federal Association for Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics) and established a Code of Conduct.

The BME and its members recognize their social responsibility. In particular, all those involved in the procurement process, as intermediaries between their own company and the providers on the respective procurement markets, bear responsibility towards their own company, towards customers and suppliers, towards the environment and towards society.

The actions of the companies and their employees are based in particular on the values of integrity and fairness.

The BME Code of Conduct is a voluntary code that is intended to underline the interest of the Federal Association for Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics e. V. and its members in fair, sustainable, responsible ethical principles of conduct.

The BME Code of Conduct applies to the signing/joining company, its management and its employees and is intended to serve as the basis for all business relationships of the signing/joining company.

The ethical guidelines described in this BME Code of Conduct are based in particular on the principles of the UN Global Compact (appendix), the ILO conventions, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN Conventions on the Rights of the Child and on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the OECD Guidelines for International Companies. The following sections II to V form minimum standards and are intended to prevent situations that could call into question the integrity of companies and their employees.

The signing/joining company observes the principles of the Global Compact and works towards achieving its objectives in its management.
