Almost 80 years of Steier - tradition and innovation

In 1936, Max Steier founded a trading company for the distribution of glucose and sugar derivatives in Berlin and supplied the food industry with them. In the wake of the chaos of war, Berlin had to be abandoned and Max and Gertrud Steier moved to Elmshorn to be closer to their customers. When a packaging material for food additives was needed, a new plastic was found in the USA in 1950 that was suitable for this purpose: (PE) polyethylene. The first welding machine for processing was bought in Switzerland at that time and so the trading company slowly became a company in the plastics processing industry.

Today, the products are manufactured in four plants under the brand names Steierform and Steierplast.

In 1952, Max Steier's son-in-law, Carsten Thormählen, joined the company and, together with his wife Eva Thormählen, née Steier, continuously expanded the production facility. Since 1958, self-adhesive materials for industrial applications have been processed in addition to plastic films.

In the third generation, Dipl.-Kffr. Monika Dormann and Dipl.-Kfm. Michael Dormann expanded the company from 1979 onwards as a leading company and competent partner for the automotive and electrical industries and mechanical engineering. As early as 1988, the company entered the SMD technology together with customers in the electrical industry. Steierform belt connectors are a household name on the market. Steier has also been a reliable partner for banks, insurance companies, service providers, industry and trade for decades with its storage products and custom-made products. With its Steierplast brands, Steier supplies sales-promoting products such as ring binders, folders and covers and, under the Steierform brand, innovative self-adhesive technology with technical die-cuts and cuts as well as labels for many purposes.

The first quality management certification was obtained as early as 1994.

With the arrival of Dipl. Wi.-Ing. Karl-Christian Dormann of the fourth generation In 2008, the StePS production system was implemented.

At the Steier family business, innovations to secure jobs in the region and investments in state-of-the-art production facilities for growth on the German and European markets are top priorities.
